Osmanlıların Girit adasını fethi oldukça uzun bir süre. içinde gerçekleşmiş;
The conquest of the Crete island by the Ottomans took place in a very long period; The campaign started in 1645 continued until September 1669. While Canea and Rethymnon from the three major fortress towns of the island were seized in the first years of the campaign, Candia (Heraklion) could be seized after a long siege. It seems that the Ottoman government gradually intensified the siege to receive the Candia in this extended siege process. In addition to increasing the number of logistic support and soldiers, new production facilities were established in the island for the supply of materials and weapons such as gunpowder and guns. In this study, Tophane (Arsenal) built by the Ottomans opposite the Candia fortress during the siege was researched. The tophane was established at the south of the fortress between October and December 1666. From the years between 1666 and 1670, a total of 143 guns, 31 of which were mortars, and 4 humbara (bombs) were produced. It is also understood that some more humbaras were produced in accordance with the imperial order. This tophane, in which mostly big guns were produced, played an significant role in the conquest of Candia.
