THE ACTIVITIES OF COMMANDER NOEL ACCORDING TO THE ARCHIVE DOCUMENTS’

Mondros Mütarekesi’nden sonra Musul Vilâyeti’ni işgal eden İngiltere, bir yandan bölgenin Osmanlı Devleti ile olan bağlarını koparmak, diğer yandan da bölgenin kuzeyden bir saldırıya uğramasını önlemek amacıyla Güneydoğu Anadolu’da bir Kürt devleti kurmak için harekete geçti. Bu amaçla Binbaşı Noel ve bazı Kürt liderleri bölgeye gönderildi. Noel’in görünüşteki görevi unsurların ve göçmenlerin sosyal ve ekonomik durumlarını tespit etmekti. Fakat gerçekte Kürt devleti için propagandalar yapmak, mümkün olursa bir isyan çıkarmak ve böylece Kürtleri, Türk birliğinden kopararak İngiltere’ye bağlı bir kitle hâline getirmek amacını takip ediyordu.

England upon occuping Musul after the Montrose Armistice, started the activity of creating a Kurdish State in the South Anatolia with to goals; to break ties with the Ottoman State as well and to prevent the area from attacks coming from the North. Commander Noel and some Kurdish leaders were sent to the region. Though Noel’s duty seemed to determine the conditions and the social and economical situation of the settlers, it appears that his real function was to make propaganda in favor of a Kurdish State, if possible to provoke a mutiny and to separate Kurds from the Turkish union and to make them a group bound up with England.
