Abstract
Sayyid Luqman ibn Husayn started his shehname (book of sultans) writing duty in the Ottoman palace in 977/1569 during the period of Selim II While he was fulfilling his main duty to write the shehname, at the same time, he was ordered to continue writing Tumar-ı Humayun (scroll of the Sultan) where the events that took place during the time of the previous sultans since the emergence of the Ottomans were chronicled from where it left off. After some 7 years in 1576, Hodja Sâdeddin Effendi, saw and liked a copy of what he had written as an addendum to Tumar-i Humayun, and requested a separate copy for himself. Luqman named this copy, which he created with his own writings, by removing the genealogical part of the scroll and shortening the chapters written before him, as Mucmelu'tTumar. In 1583, the writer had the book-form versions of Tumar-ı Humayun decorated with many miniatures, including the genealogy section, prepared and presented these copies to Sultan Murad III, Grand Vizier Siyavush Pasha and Aga of Darussaade Mehmed Aga. These three copies, bearing the name Zubdetu't-Tevarikh like Tumar-ı Humayun, have attracted the attention of art historians due to their striking miniatures with high artistic value and studies have been carried out on these manuscripts only in this context until today. The Ottoman history section, which chronicled the important events of the period concerned in detail almost day by day, in a full diary style, has remained hidden except for a few references seen in some works. In this study, the six copies of the manuscript concerned which chronicle a very important over 35-year period of the Ottoman history covering the last 7 years of Suleiman the Magnificent and the entire periods of Selim II and Murad III, written by Luqman in person, who had personally witnessed many events during his service in the palace for 26 years, will be introduced in detail.
